Gambia News : Gambia decentralises biometric ID system

gambia The Gambia Biometric Identification System (GAMBIS) was on Thursday launched in the Kanifing Municipal Area as the authorities work toward extending it to all regional capitals for easy access to the new identification card.

Yaya Sireh Jallow, permanent secretary at the Ministry of the Interior, said since the introduction of GAMBIS over 10,000 Gambians had acquired the new biometric identification card, adding that the process of acquiring a Gambian identity card was now more user-friendly and simple but fraud proof.

He said the opening of the Kanifing office was another milestone in government's effort to improve service delivery to the people.

Buba Sanyang, deputy director of Gambia Immigration, called on Gambians to remain vigilant as real backups to safeguard the national documents.
