Gambia News : Gambia ratifies convention against cluster bombs

gambia Gambian government has ratified the international convention which seeks to ban cluster bombs, authoritative sources in Banjul confirmed to PANA here Friday.

According to the sources, Gambia‘s Defence Secretary (Minister) Ousman Sonko, an d other senior government officials recently attended a meeting in Oslo, Norway, where they ratified the convention on behalf of the West African nation 3 December.

The Gambian government hailed Norway for the leadership role it has played against cluster bombs.

The international convention which aims at banning "the use, production, stockpiling and transfer" of cluster ammunitions, has been a subject of campaign by peace activists across the globe.
