Gambia News : Gambia reiterates commitment to Yamoussoukro agreement

gambia The director-general of Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Mr. Malick Cham, on Tuesday reiterated the government's commitment to the Yamoussoukro Decision for Air Transport Liberalization in West Africa.

Cham made this remark during the opening in Banjul of a three-day workshop for evaluation of the Yamoussoukro Decision in West Africa organised and funded by the European Union in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Mr. Cham said the Gambia had already integrated at the level of the national legislations provisions of the Yamoussoukro Decision in order to maintain and have a comprehensive liberalised air transport industry in West Africa.

He explained that air transport had become the order of the day and remained a challenge for many countries in Africa.

'This evaluation can really contribute to remove all obstacles and bottlenecks to the full implementation of the Yamoussoukro Decision in West and Central Africa,' he added.

The three-day forum, which has brought together participants from West and Central African countries, is aimed at identifying the problem and solution of air transport in African.

Dr. K.J. Gogoua, Head of ECOWAS Transport Division, noted that it has been 10 years since the inception of the Yamoussoukro Decision and urged participants to take steps to fully implement the Yamoussoukro Decision in order to solve the problem of air transport in Africa.
