Gambia: NIA Murder Case, OC Prosecution Testifies

Chief Superintendent Burama Dibba, Officer Commanding prosecution at the Gambia Police Force, on Friday, 1st June 2007, testified before Justice Anin Yeboah at the Banjul High Court in the murder case involving Victor Gomez and John Gomez.

In his testimony, OC Dibba stated that in February 2004, he was the Officer Commanding at the Police Headquarters in Banjul. He said he knew Dr. Omar Sam as he worked closely with him, adding that Dr. Sam is a medical practitioner at the RVTH and most of the time conducted medical examination in cases of murder for the Gambia Police Force. He said he knew both the accused persons and the deceased.

OC Dibba further adduced that part of his duty as Officer Commanding prosecution was to order for a post mortem to be carried out in the case of murder and to collect the medical report, which is attached to the case file and sent to the Attorney-General’s chambers. He said the examination report is normally addressed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), noting that in the case before the court, he collected the medical examination report of the deceased, Habibu Gibba, which was included in the case file.

The said medical examination report was later tendered in court as exhibit.
