The Inspector General of Police has issued a statement on Thursday 28th June warning the general public to desist from going around and areas of the Banjul Serekunda Highway between Mile 4, Oyster Creek Bridge and Mile 7, Kamalo, better known as Sting Corner. The statement reveals that two women had been severely attacked by an unknown person around the area. It added that the police have reasons to believe that last night’s attack was related to a killing of a woman around the same place last year. The area, lying along the highway but flanked by mangrove swamps and creeks is used by some women who harvest oysters for the Banjul and Serekunda markets. According to the police, the two women whose names were not released, were attacked by the man and seriously wounded and are undergoing treatment at the RVTH hospital in Banjul. It added that both members of the police force and the army are currently searching the area for the attacker. It warned members of the public against going around the said area unaccompanied.
