Gambia : Sidia Jatta Dissatisfied with GRTS’s Report
Hon. Sidia Jatta, National Assembly Member for Wuli West, expressed total disappointment with Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) at last Wednesday’s National Assembly sitting, while describing The Point as a credible and objective paper in information dissemination. Hon Jatta’s apparent backlash was spurred by what he described as GRTS’s misinterpretation of his contribution on the motion to "Consider and Adopt a Motion Recognising and Appreciating the President’s Efforts in Promoting Therapy and a cure for HIV/AIDS and Asthma."
Hon. Jatta made these comments in his contributions during the adjournment and vowed to call a press conference to put the record straight. According to him, he had not rightly quoted in the GRTS report of the sitting in question, noting that it was only The Point newspaper that reported factually on what he said. "I was misquoted by GRTS. If anyone wants to know what I said, please read The Point newspaper of the 7th March. It is only The Point newspaper that reported what I said faithfully," he stated.
It could be recalled that during his contribution on the said motion, Hon. Jatta said that as far as one agreed that the problems of humanity are the concern of everybody and nation in the world, then there should be no argument about anybody making effort to solve those problems.
Commenting further, the Wuli West National Assembly Member advised that people should not be afraid of criticism but try to think even harder.
"I don’t think that anybody should be angry that people are criticizing the president. Science develops out of criticism and knowledge itself is a product of criticism," he said.
Hon. Jatta further stated that since human beings have the capacity to acquire knowledge, "they should make a tool of what it means to avoid argument."
"That which can be proven cannot be argued. So my contention is that there is enough competent scientific community in this county and elsewhere in the world, whose responsibility is to deal with matters of such nature," he concluded.
