Gambia: The Treason Trial of Tamsir Jasseh And Others Before Justice Annin Yeboah

Dec 08,2006 by

gambia

The treason trial involving Tamsir Jasseh, accused no. 5, Alieu Jobe, accused no. 6, Omar Faal, alias Omar Keita, accused no. 7 and Hon. Demba Dem, accused no. 8 proceeded yesterday before Justice Annin Yeboah of the High Court.

In his testimony, state witness Alieu Lowe told the court that he knew Alieu Jobe, accused No. 6. He said that on 21st March 2006, nothing happened between him and Alieu Jobe. He said he did not carry any message to anyone, adding that he knew Mustapha Lowe at the Mile II Central Prisons, though the two of them first met at the NIA office.

He further testified that at the NIA they wrote a statement and asked him to sign, which he did. He said he was severely beaten, nearly to death, and told that if he failed to sign the statement he would be killed. When asked by the prosecution whether he could recognize the statement he made at the NIA he said that he could not. He added that when the NIA went to his home they took away D8, 000.00 and his bank book.

Further testifying, Mr. Lowe denied that Alieu Jobe opened a bank account for him for the purpose of the construction of Alieu Jobe's house. When further quizzed by the prosecution as to whether Alieu Jobe gave him any money to give to the ex-CDS col. Ndure Cham, he said he did not know col. Ndure Cham.

Hearing continues on 13th December 2006
