Couple 242 Amadou Camara of the Serious Crime Unit, Police headquarters, yesterday testified before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court in the D19m theft case involving Famara Colley, Mustapha Bojang and Aziz Tamba.

In his testimony, Couple Camara stated that on 29th January 2007, he was on duty at the Serious Crimes unit of police headquarters in Banjul. He said while there he met the accused persons and obtained a cautionary statement from the 1st accused, Famara Colley. He identified the said statement, which was later tendered in court as exhibit. He said prior to obtaining a statement from Famara Colley, he had told them why they were in the office and that they should respond positively and honestly on the allegations against them.

Cpl. Camara further adduced that thereafter the 1st accused, Famara Colley, told him that he came to the company through the assistance of Aziz Tamba and Mustapha Bojang. He said Famara Colley further told him that he was given the post of a salesman without an appointment letter. He added that Famara Colley further stated that while he was on duty, part of a consignment of rice at the ports was taken to his warehouse in Kanifing while another was loaded in trucks and taken to other outlets. He however recalled that Famara could not confirm whether the trucks reached those outlets, saying that he did not escort the trucks. He said Famara Colley added that the proceeds from the rice were kept in a safe at his office and deposited at the Bank.

Cpl. Camara further testified that Famara Colley also told him that Aziz Tamba usually came to request money allegedly on behalf of the president, adding that he would in turn request for a written document from Aziz Tamba who would promise to bring the document at a later date. He revealed that Famara Colley also told him that he would ask either Mustapha Bojang or Aziz Tamba to sign the document before receiving money.
