Gambia: As SN Brussels Investigation Intentifies - Is the Deceased an Employee of Banjul Airport?
Yerro Bah, aged, 32, was the man gruesomely discovered dead in the compartment of an SN Brussels Airbus in Brussels, sources at the Banjul International Airport disclosed to this paper in a recent interview.
"Yes, this man is said to have been named Yerro Bah, supposedly an employee of the Banjul International Airport. But the fact of the matter is that, there is also an employee at the Airport by the same name, but he is still alive. He did not stow away and he is older," a reliable source disclosed.
The source further hinted that the man was also found with some dalasis notes in his possession. Earlier sources involved in the investigation from Belgium have also reported that the stowaway deceased appear to have been an employee of Banjul International Airport as a waistcoat, with Banjul Airport emblem embedded on it was indeed found on him. "An ID card was also found on the dead body. Perhaps, the stowaway might have procured this waistcoat to elude Airport authorities in Banjul," reported a Belgian investigating team.
Reports from Belgium also indicated that investigation was immediately mounted by legal authorities at the discovery of the body. The administrative branch of the Belgian Civil Aviation was informed and SN Brussels also decided to launch an internal investigation into the matter.
An SN Brussels Spokesman in Brussels was reported to have explained that the airbus compartment was not pressurised during the flight and when it airlifted there was no oxygen.
"Moreover, to 10,000 meters, the temperature goes down to approximately 50 degrees under zero. One is likely to fall asleep before dying. The stowaway was believed to have died from cold and smothering. The airbus compartment is very big and was not hollowed out before it eventually took off. A likely cause of death is widely expected to have emanated from treacherous conditions of the voyage on the airbus compartment," the Spokesman indicated.
Efforts to reach Mr.Bojang, Director-General of Banjul International Airport proved futile as he was said to be attending a meeting or away from his Desk.
Director of Operations, Ms.Catherine when contacted for comment declined to comment and then referred the matter to PRO Ngonoh Jagne, who was also not immediately available for comments.
