Gambia News : Gambian bishops emphasise importance of peaceful co-existence
Bishop Salomon Taliwa Johnson of the Gambia Anglican Mission said here on Friday the welfare of the people is panacea to stability, PANA reported.
Johnson said in his new year message that such welfare package include good education, health care, access to clean drinking water and good road network.
Peace is the only way forward for any development to be realised, he said, calling on Gambians to maintain the current peace they enjoy as a nation.
Bishop Robert P. Ellison of the Catholic Mission and the Bishop of Banjul, said world rich countries are responsible for the conflicts around the globe and the only way out is for peaceful countries like the Gambia to continue praying for peace.
Ellison said the increase in violent crime is cause for concern, warning that this is against the will of Christ.
According to him, "if we can not address the imbalance in our society, we will become part of the problem to come tomorrow."

- Not all rich nations are violent, not all poor nations are peaceful. Africa, Asia, South America, spring to mind. Along with peace we need acceptence, respect, love, honesty, health, good will... and a Gambia without Jammeh would help.
