Gambia News : Gambian govt. vows to fight illegal migration
The Gambian government has said it will do everything possible to stamp
out illegal migration in the country, Interior Minister Ousman Sonko
announced here Friday.
Addressing a forum on the search for collective solution to illegal
migration, organised by Gambian National Youth Parliament, Sonko said
the police and the National Drug Enforcement Agency would be
strengthened to "attack the vice from its toots".
He disclosed
that through the Immigration Department, his ministry had identified
all the routes and activities of illegal migrants, adding that the
security forces, mandated to fight the vice, had now been posted to
monitor them.
He said that the Gambian and Spanish governments,
through a bilateral cooperation agreement, now had five pick-up
vehicles and a mini truck, among others, to facilitate mobility by the
monitoring teams.
He assured the Gambian youth that the
government was continuously creating jobs for them under the Youth
environment policy of the country, and urged parents, relatives and
agents who sponsor the migrating youth to reflect on the dangers and
tragedies associated with the vice with a view to curbing their
activities.

- Why try to prevent Gambian youth from migrating when they are faced daily with an increasingly repressive, corrupt and inept regime.
