Gambia News : Gambian leader effects minor cabinet reshuffle, removes Fatoumatta Jahumpa & Musa Bala Gaye
The Gambian president Yahya Jammeh has effected some minor cabinet reshuffle by removing the Minister of Fiannce and Economic Affairs Musa Bala Gaye, however, no replacement has yet been named.
Gaye was first appointed to the cabinet as Finance Minister on September 25, 2003. He served in that position until March 2005, when he was redployed as Foreign Minister. However, in November of the same year, he was returned to the finance ministry, which position he held until his latest sacking on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, President Jammeh has also revoked the nomination to the National Assembly of the Speaker Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, which move effectively also removes her as speaker.
According to the Gambian constitution, the speaker of the National Assembly has to be one of the five nominated members. Therefore, the revocation of her nomination also means that the National Assembly has to elect another speaker from the nominated members.
