Gambia News : Gambian veteran surgeon and writer Dr Lenrie Peters dies at 76
Lenrie Peters, a leading Gambian surgeon and writer, died on Wednesday
in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, due to heart failure, family sources
in Banjul, the Gambian capital, confirmed to PANA Thursday.
Peters, who died at the age of 76, was a famous author, poet and philanthropist in Gambia.
He was a member of the prestigious British “Fellow Royal College of Surgeon” (FRCS) in the United Kingdom.
Peters
worked in Gambia's major hospitals like the Royal Victoria Teaching
Hospital and Bansang Hospital before moving to Westfield Clinic.
For
the last three years of his life, he gave scholarships to “best medical
students” at the University of Gambia in a bid to promote the teaching
of medicine and sciences.

- Well I know DR. Lenrie Peters very wll because I worked with him for about fourteen years at the Westfieldclinic, before I left. I was one of his assistant during surgry cases. I was very sorry when I heard the hurrible news.
