Gambia News : Jammeh frown at regional leaders' recognition of Guinea coupists

Jan 13,2009 by

gambia Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh has advised the Guinean coupists to work closely with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) instead of listening to some irresponsible sub-regional leaders who are after their own interests.

Jammeh made the statement during a press conference at the Banjul International Airport on his arrival from the 25th ECOWAS summit of Heads of State and Government.

The ECOWAS Commission is tasked to work closely with the Military government of Guinea to make sure that the transition to civil government takes place without problems.

He also pointed out that despite the fact that nearly half of the member states did not attend the summit, their absence would not upturn the decision to suspend Guinea from all ECOWAS meetings until civilian rule is restored.

According to President Jammeh, ECOWAS tasked the Military Junta to make sure that democratic elections are held before that end of 2009.
