Gambia News : Jammeh laments indiscipline in Gambian Armed Forces
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has said that discipline was declining
in the country's Armed Forces, and warned that "this will not be
compromised or tolerated".
Jammeh made these assertions while addressing senior military
officers at the swearing ceremony of the new Chief of Defence Staff,
Lieutenant General Masanneh Kinteh, and the decoration of the
newly-promoted Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Yankuba
Drammeh.
PANA reports that the Gambian Commander-in-Chief on
Sunday lamented on national television that the Gambian Armed Forces
personnel had no respect for civilians.
"As military officers, you should always respect and serve the public," Jammeh said.
'There
are officers who go to places in this country and do anything they want
to do and get away with it," he said, adding that any officer caught in
such an act would be dealt with according to the rules of the armed
forces.
Responding, Kinteh assured the Gambian leader of their loyalty and commitment to defend the country.
