Gambia: Lang Tombong Made Brigadier General
GRTS radio, monitored in Banjul on Wednesday 2nd May, announced that President Yahya Jammeh, acting on powers vested on him by the constitution has, decided on promoting two officers of the armed forces. Commander of the Defense Staff Col. Lang Tombong Tamba has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General, while Head of the State House Guards, Captain Musa Jammeh was made Major. The promotions are to be of immediate effect, the GRTS broadcast added.
The news broadcast of the promotions did not, however, disclose the reasons for the promotions. Both men belong to the Gambian leader’s Jola-speaking kinsmen, and CDS Tamba was said to have played a critical role in putting down last year’s alleged coup attempt against the Gambia Government. Major Musa Jammeh has been named in the recently concluded martial court as one of the leading torturers of the Jammeh regime. Before this he had been widely suspected of being one of those responsible for some of the bestialities the Jammeh regime had committed against the press and opposition politicians over the past several years. The head of the State House Guards is one of the Jammeh regime’s men that The Gambia Journal’s anti-torture campaign is preparing to file charges against in international courts.

This title has to be earn in accordance with the military codex and ethiks. We saw Idi Amin Dada from sergent to general,just laughing.
