Gambia News : President Jammeh renews The Gambia’s diplomatic recognition of Taiwan

gambia Gambian president Yahya Jammeh on Saturday returned from a week-long state visit to Taiwan during which he renewed The Gambia’s diplomatic support for Taiwan.

Speaking to journalists at the airport, President Jammeh said he held discussions with his Taiwanese counterpart President Ma Ying-jeou on numerous bilateral issues including The Gambia’s continued diplomatic recognition of Taiwan. He said the Taiwanese government also renewed its support for Gambia-’s development efforts, particularly in the areas of health, education and infrastructural development.

The Gambia is one of only four countries in Africa which still maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan instead of the People’s Republic of China. The others are Burikna Faso, Chad, and Swaziland.
