President Kabba Upbeat about Sierra Leone-Gambia Relations

The president of Sierra Leone, H.E Ahmed Tijan Kabba, has expressed satisfaction about the relations between Sierra Leone and The Gambia. According to reports monitored from the GRTS last evening, President Kabba made the remarks at the Coconut Residence, at the end of a one-day working visit.

Speaking to reporters, President Kabba said the relationship between Sierra Leone and The Gambia would go from strength to strength. “I was attending some meetings in Dakar and I thought from there that it must be a good idea for me to stop by and see my brother. We haven’t seen each other for some time,” he told reporters. He described his visit as fruitful, characterised by exchange of views on many issues one of which, he added, is to further strengthen the relations between Sierra Leone and The Gambia. President Kabba disclosed that they have even succeeded in operationalising a commission they had set up some time ago in principle. To that effect, he said, effective end of April 2007, a ministerial commission would be meeting once every quarter to discuss the state of the relationship between the two countries, as well as to discuss policy issues and get best practices together so that the living condition of the two peoples could be improved

In response to a question on what he may expect from The Gambia as his country goes to general elections later this year, he said they have been monitoring issues in The Gambia, adding that they could learn a lot from The Gambia’s experience.
