Gambia News : Senegalese leader to visit Gambian capital Monday
Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade is scheduled to pay a one day visit to The Gambia on Monday, official sources disclose here Sunday.
According to Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), President Wade arrives in Banjul early in the morning, although there was no indication as to what the purpose of his visit was and how long it was going to last.
There has recently been some simmering diplomatic rupture between the two countries, especially with regards to the recent publication by the pro-government Daily Observer newspaper of a letter purported to have been written to President Wade by Gambian dissident Kukoi Samba Sanyang, the architect of a failed coup d’etat in 1981 against the government of former President Dawda Jawara, and which was crushed by the intervention of Senegalese soldiers.
In that letter, Kukoi was alleged to have requested the assistance of President Wade to remove Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.
However, there has not yet been any official reaction to the letter from either government.
