Gambia News : Two regional leaders to attend Gambia’s independence anniversary

gambia As The Gambia celebrates its 45th independence anniversary on Thursday, President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal and the head of the Guinean junta, General Sekouba Konate are expected in Banjul Wednesday as guests of honour for the occasion.

An official release Wednesday says President Wade will arrive in Banjul in the evening while General Konate will also arrive later.

The celebrations will begin with a reception at State House in Banjul on Wednesday evening to which a cross section of the Gambian public will be invited.

On Thursday morning, there will be the highlights of the celebrationsat the July 22 Square in Banjul which will include a march past of school chidlren, civil society groups and the security forces, culminating in an address to the school children by President Yahya Jammeh.

The ceremony will be followed by a state banguet at one of the local hotels in which the chief guests will attend.
