Gambia: Iran expands ties with Gambia

Iran's President Mahmud Ahmadinejad says Iran and Gambia enjoy strong relations and Tehran will spare no effort to expand bilateral ties with Banjul.

Ahmadinejad met Gambia's foreign minister, Bala Garba Jahumpa, in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz late Monday, Mehr news agency reports.

President Ahmadinejad said Iran and Gambia share many common viewpoints on international issues and that Iran is ready to provide Gambia with its expertise in agriculture.

Gambia's foreign minister said his country is interested in boosting ties with Iran and also in sharing Iran's experience in the energy sector.

Bala Garba Jahumpa said Gambia supports Iran's inalienable right to peaceful nuclear energy.

He said Iran's progress can be a starting point for other independent states to achieve peaceful nuclear energy technology.
