Gambia News : National telecom giant boss bounces back

gambia Katim Touray, the sacked Managing Director of Gambia Telecommunications Company Ltd. (GAMTEL), has bounced back to once more steer the affairs of the troubled national telecommunication giant, official sources in Banjul confirmed to PANA here Tuesday.

GAMTEL and its subsidiary GAMCEL have witnessed lots of changes at management an d other levels over the years, resulting in frequent firings and hirings of direct ors and other senior officials of the company over the years.

In 2007, the government sold off 50 per cent shares to a Lebanese-owned company, "Spectrum International Group", much to the disapproval of many Gambians, espec i ally opposition politicians who vehemently condemned the move.

However, barely 18 months after making the deal with the Lebanese company, the G ambian government in November 2008 cancelled the agreement and culminating in the rehiring of two former directors, the latest being Touray.
