Gambia News : Lamin Waa Juwara appointed provincial governor in Gambia
Lamin Waa Juwara, leader of the opposition National Democratic Action Movement party (NDAM), has been appointed Governor of Lower River Region (LRR), formerly Lower River Division, by President Yahya Jammeh, PANA reported Thursday. Before the appointment, Juwara was a nominated councillor at the Brikama Area Council.
In May 2008, Juwara was reported to have switched to the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), but he described such reports as "nonsense".
Mr Juwara's NDAM party was among the opposition coalition that formed the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD) in 2005 to contest against President Jammeh.
Juwara replaces Momodou Suma Jobe as LRR governor. Suma was removed from office alongside three district chiefs on 20 May.
