Gambia: GFA Baffled With Coach Hey's Resignation
The Gambia Football Association has still not
officially confirmed whether Antoine Hey, the German coach that was
assigned to the Senior Scorpions team has walked out on The Gambia. But
the football association expressed their shock at the strained news.
Mr
Jammeh Bojang, the Secretary-General of national football governing
body, GFA said: "There is still no correspondence from coach Antoine
Hey concerning his alleged resignation. I tried to reach him since but
to no avail. So we cannot confirm whether he has resigned or not. But
if the news is true, we are very shocked about it."
Jammeh Bojang added that coach Hey has been a
good friend since he landed in the country three months back. "I think
we should give 'Tony' a chance. He has been a good friend of the Gambia
and has really manifested that he is ready to work with The Gambia,"
Bojang admitted. He added: "We would not want it to go this way.
Definitely I wish the Gambia Football Association had the money to pay
his salary."
The news of coach Hey's alleged
resignation broke out on Monday. According to reports, the German-born
was not paid since he took over the team three months back, a scenario
that must have forced him to walk out on Gambia. The GFA
Secretary-General however stated that coach Antoine Hey's salaries and
other expenses were to be paid by the Sports Ministry and not the
Gambia Football Association.
