Gambia,Côte d'Ivoire: Gambia Shift Base to Pointe Noire
Jan 28,2007 by
Group A leaders, Gambia and Cote'd Ivoire have settled down in Pointe Noire for their last group A encounter.
Gambia the Cinderella of the tournament have already qualified for the semi-final having won two games.
It is a game of formality, but the Gambians would want to bag all the full points so as to maintain the grip on the Group and avoid Nigeria, which is likely to emerge as leaders from Pointe Noire.
Parading most of the boys that won the African U-17 on home soil in 2005, the Gambia have left no one in doubt that they mean business in their resolved to win the cup.
In their first match against Burkina Faso, they romped to a 2-0 win, in a game which they were given an outside chance to win. And then they followed that win with a shock 1-0 blow to the hosts Congo it was one of the toughest match in group A.
Cote' d Ivoire are out of the tournament, they have their pride at stake and this might spur them on to their first victory, but it is very unlikely if they will get past the highly motivated Gambian team.
The other group A fixture between Burkina Faso and host Congo will hold in Brazzaville.
The entire group A matches will be played simultaneously at 3pm local time.
On Saturday, Nigeria will take on Cameroon in Pointe Noire, while Egypt and Zambia will clash in Brazzaville. The matches will be played at 3pm local time.
