The Africa Draught Championship and world draught
qualifiers, ended at the Paradise suites Hotel in Banjul on Wednesday
evening with the organizers of the continental competition crowning
Makodu Ndiaye of Senegal as the new African champion.
He is followed in second position by Jeane Mark
Ndjofeng of Cameroon who got eleven points after winning four games,
drawing three and losing one.
Ndiaga Samb of Senegal came third, whilst Moussa Camara
of the Republic of Guinea and former African champion, Kbuegueu Leopold
of Cameroon came fourth and fifth respectively.
The other people who qualify for the World Draught
Championships scheduled to take place in Sao Paulo in Brazil in October
are; Sheikh Njie of The Gambia, Adama Kone of Burkina Fasso, Sadibou
Drame of Mali and Souleymane Dieng of Mauritania.
According to Henri Macaux, the international referee
that supervised the matches during the tournament, Africa will be
represented in the global tournamnt by nine players; but added that if
a country fails to pay its annual contribution to the Africa Draught
Confederation, then its representative will be replaced by Uganda’s
Frank Zziwa.
The Gambian Minister for Youth and Sports, Sherrif
Gomez, presented a giant trophy to Makodou Ndiaye of Senegal as the
African champion.
