Gambian senior national team, the Scorpions, Saturday made history, by qualifying, for the first time, for the third round of the World and African Nations cup competitions' next stage. Following their goalless draw in Banjul with the Taranga Lions of Senegal and a 1-1 draw in Dakar, Gambia qualified for the World and African Nations cup tournaments, which draws will be held in Zurich, Switzerland Sunday.

Although Gambia did not defeat Senegal, it stopped the country from going through the second stage.

A Scorpions fan, Ebrima Jaiteh, said “we are not talking about qualifying, but this is a life-time achievement for the Gambia. This was what Senegal said in Seoul, Korea 2002, when they defeated France in their first match in that World Cup” e ncounter.

It has been celebration galore in the Gambia among both young and old, saying that since 1962, their country has not defeated Senegal which has always been the stumbling blocking to their football exploits.
