Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh has sent a congratulatory message to America's president-elect, Senator Barack Obama, on his victory at the 4 November poll. In his message broadcast on Gambia Radio and Television Services Thursday, Jammeh said, “Allow me to congratulate you on your landslide victory in the US 2008 historic election, which I followed with keen interest.

"With your election, we hope for a better and more peaceful world, for our children and grand children. We in the Gambia recognise the merit, ideology, maturity, high intelligence and message of peace you displayed during your campaign,"Jammeh said.

The Gambian President pointed out that "with high hope in your leadership, you will not only bring peace for the Americans, but also for the whole world and the US will be champions of peace in the world.

"As an African-American, we in the Gambia will not distance ourselves, that a son of a black African has risen to the highest post in America, and the world in the 21st century.

"We pray for you and that the road ahead remains smooth for you, and we will put our trust in you to bring the most change, not only for your great country, but also for the whole world that is faced with conflict, violence, and race," he said.
