Leader of the opposition Gambia People Democratic Party (GPDP), Mr. Henry Gomez, has urged Gambians to forget the past, come together and work as one family for the progress of the country.

Gomez made the appeal in his new year’s message, made available to PANA here Tuesday, stressing that nobody would come from outside to develop the Gambia and that only Gambians could develop their country.

“As we move away from one year to another new year, I would like to call on all Gambians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to come together and work for our own good, this is for the development of our country,” he stated.

He called on Gambians to work with the ruling APRC, pointing out that any Gambian could contribute in one way or the other, his or her quota, to national development despite having different political affiliations.

Gomez urged Gambians to forget the past, open a new page and come together, be in the opposition or government, adding that the country belonged to Gambians and only Gambians could develop it.

He also called on Gambians to apologise to each other for anything that had happened over the years, noting that it was time for the people to support each other for the common good of the country.

He commended the security forces for the continued peace in the country, adding that they could not provide 100 per cent security but with all hands on deck, everyone would be safe in the country.
