The new traffic law recently passed by Gambian Parliament has come into effect from this month, a statement issued by the country's Inspector General of Police received here by PANA disclosed Monday.

The new law forbids motorists from using cell phones while driving on the roads.

Similarly, it has also made it mandatory for motorists and passengers to use seat-belts while in traffic.

The stipulated fine for those found wanting by breaking the new legislation ranges from 1,000 to 2,000 thousand Gambian dalasis (approximately US$ 40 to 80).
