According to a Radio Gambia announcement citing a press release from the Foreign Affairs ministry on Thursday, the accident happened at the beginning of February.

According to the announcement, most of the victims came from the far eastern part of The Gambia, in the Upper River region.

One of the injured is said to have been admitted in a hospital in the Senegalese capital.

In the release, the foreign ministry called on Gambians, particularly the youths, to desist from the temptation of illegal migration in all its forms, especially through the Sahara or the Atlantic Ocean.
