Gambia News : Gambian minister Yankunba Touray sacked in cabinet reshuffle

Gambian president Yahya Jammeh, has sacked his Minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Affairs, Yankunba Touray, and announced a minor cabinet reshuffle, a press statement from the State House here indicated Saturday.In the minor cabinet reshuffle, President Jammeh moved Tena Bah-Jaiteh, the form er secretary general to the cabinet, to the post of deputy minister of petroleum , while Abdoulie Sillah replaced Bah-Jaiteh as secretary general to the cabinet. Yergo Bah was also appointed secretary general in the office of the president. The statement did not give any reason for Touray's dismissal. Touray was the national mobilizer for the ruling APRC party and has just conclud ed a nation-wide tour with the president before his dismissal. He was a member of five-man council that brought President Jammeh to power in 19 94, and was initially appointed minister of Local Government and later Information, Communications and Technology, before being sacked for the first time in 2004 . Touray was re-appointed early 2006, few months to the presidential and parliamentary elections. |
