Gambia News : Gambia ruling party launches presidential electioneering campaign

Without waiting for the Gambian Independent Electoral Commission to announce a date, the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) has launched a nationwide electioneering campaign ahead of the 2011 presidential elections, PANA reported from here Tuesday.During the campaign, APRC's campaign manager, Yankuba Colley, called on Gambians to remain loyal to President Yahya Jammeh for the socio-economic development of the country.
Addressing APRC supporters in Kudang, Colley said they would never regret voting for Jammeh, adding that no opposition party would survive in the area other tha n the APRC.
He said unity, love and respect were the bedrock for a sustainable socio-economic development in a country, urging them to vote for Jammeh in the 2011 election.
Chief of Niamina East, Alhaji Kebba Touray, assured Colley and the delegation that APRC was the only surviving party in the area, adding that his people would always remain loyal to the party and to the President in particular.
The National Assembly member for Niamina East, Foday Jallow also noted that his compatriots were ready to work hand-in-glove with Colley for the development of APRC.
In Soma in Jarra West district of the Lower River Region, Colley told the gathering that Jammeh had made Gambians proud and respected all over the world.
He further reminded them that Jarra Soma had undergone a massive transformation from 1994 to date under Jammeh's leadership and therefore urged them to rally behind the APRC government for more development.
The governor of Lower River Region, Lamin Waa Juwara, also assured Colley and his delegation that the political differences in the region had now been resolved.
'As far as I remain the governor of LRR, it is my intention to make everyone happy and it is the ruling party who can make the Gambian people happy,' he said, adding that the President's concern was to make every Gambian independent.
He also urged them to unite and vote for Jammeh in the forthcoming presidential election.
The National Assembly member for Serrekunda East and majority leader of the National Assembly, Fabakary Tombong Jatta expressed optimism that Jammeh would win again in LRR at the 2011 election.
