Ousainou B A Joof, an Independent candidate for Jokadou, and Modou I Cham, Independent candidate for Jeshwang, have withdrawn their candidature to contest the January 25 National Assembly elections, according to a press release from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

According to the IEC, their withdrawal is in accordance with Section 51 of Decree 78 of the Independent Electoral Commission.

The withdrawal of Mr Cham has left Jeshwang seat to be contested by Haddy Jagne for the APRC Party, and Junkungba Dukureh for the UDP.

In Jokadu, the National Assembly seat would now be contested among three candidates, comprising Kebba Gaye for the APRC, Sait A Joof for the UDP, and Ousman MM Jallow for the Independent ticket.

Meanwhile, Kebba Y Drammeh, Independent candidate for Niani, has reportedly withdrawn his candidature.

Although the release did not state reasons for the withdrawal, it is not clear whether more Independent candidates will follow suit.
