Nigeria: I'm Not Thinking About Nigeria - Gambian Coach

AS the Flying Eagles departed for Brazzaville yesterday for Tuesday's semifinal match, Gambia's under-20 coach, Peter Johnson is in a relaxed mood ahead of the African Youth Championship tie against Nigeria.

He weekend insisted that he was not thinking about the prospects of facing the defenders at the Brazzaville National Stadium.

Johnson, who is parading the bulk of players, who won the 2005 Africa under-17 Championship in Gambia, won all their three Group A games and start as slight favourites against the Nigerians, who stuttered into the semifinals, having lost one; won one and drawn one; to draw the wrath of fans here and at home.

But in a terse reaction when Sports Vanguard cornered him at the Point Noire Airport on Sunday, a cool-looking Johnson said as far he was concerned, that he had taken the weekend off to think about other things than the imminent match with the Nigerians.

He said rather than worry about the Flying Eagles, he was taking his time to rest and meditate on the word of God.
