One Tabara Samba, a Senegalese national, on Tuesday, 6th March, allegedly poured hot oil on her sleeping husband, Ebrima Nyan, a Gambian. The incident occurred in their Old Jeshwang residence. Explaining his horror to The Point on Saturday, the disfigured Mr. Nyan said the incident came as a big surprise to him because there had been no problems or arguments between them. He added that prior to the incident he had been with the wife before going out with a friend to find food. He said some 30 minutes after his return he requested for them to go to bed but the wife insisted on watching a film. He adduced that he then left her in the sitting room and went to bed. Three times afterwards, he continued to relate, the wife would come in to check on him in the bedroom but when he enquired as to what the matter was, she replied in the negative. He said while he was fast asleep much later on, at around 1:30 am, he was jolted out of sleep with the feel of some burning substance eating into his bare skin. Realising that Tabara, the wife, poured hot oil on his body, he explained, “I shouted at the top of my voice, waking my neighbours who rushed me to Lamtoro. I was later referred to the RVTH.” Mr Nyang is currently hospitalised at the Intensive Care Unit of RVTH while Tabara is under police custody helping them in their investigations. Meanwhile reliable sources have hinted this paper that the wife was driven to take the action by her suspicion that Mr Nyang was in the process of wedding a second wife. |
