Gambia: First Lady Receives Suwa-Gam Executive

First Lady Madam Zineb Jammeh, yesterday received members of the executive committee of the Society of Women Against Aids (SUWA) The Gambia Chapter at State House in Banjul.Speaking to journalists, shortly after the courtesy call, Saihou Ceesay, Director of National AIDs Secretariat, said the courtesy call was geared towards the promulgation of a "Model Law" that has been developed for West and Central Africa to fight HIV/Aids. "We gave the First Lady a copy of the Model Law and also briefed her on the advocacy that we need from the leadership in the process of localising the model in The Gambia," he added. According to him, the delegation also solicited the support of the First Lady for the "Model Law" and others in the country. Jagan Loum, Secretary General of SUWA, thanked Madam Zineb Jammeh for her willingess to support SUWA-Gam. Ramou Jange, West Africa Coordinator of SUWA International, said the organisation is operating in 40 countries in Africa, and then amplified Mr Ceesay's assertions that the Model Law was created to combat HIV Aids, and to protect people living with HIV/Aids. |
