Gambia News : New US ambassador, three others present credentials to Jammeh

The new American ambassador to The Gambia, Barry L Wells on Wednesday presented his credentials to President Yahya Jammeh in Banjul at t h e start of his tour of duty in the West African country.

Presidential sources told PANA that the new ambassador discussed with President Jammeh issues of mutual interest and ways of improving Gambia-United States rela t ions.

"We have had long standing positive relations between the two governments and th eir people. As US ambassador, my objective is to strengthen this strong relatio n ship," Wells said.

"Today, we have a strong presence in The Gambia of US Peace Corps volunteers wor king in villages and community levels across the country and I wish to work to i m prove the cooperation."

Jammeh described The Gambia as "a great friend of the USA in the global fight ag ainst terrorism."

"Despite being a small nation, The Gambia has done a great deal and we hope that the relationship will continue so that those elements of support can continue,"

he added.

Three other new ambassadors from Oman, Sudan and Angola also presented their cre dentials to the Gambian leader.
